Malanda High wins Interschool swimming

Malanda High students have demonstrated their swimming prowess for the second consecutive year by claiming victory at the Interschool Swimming competition held at the Dimbulah Pool last Friday, 14th March. Schools from across the Tablelands competed for the first of the interschool sporting trophies for the year. Second place was awarded to St Stephens with third place being claimed by Mareeba State High School.
Despite being one of the smallest schools in the competition Malanda fielded swimmers in every event including the relays. Sports Co-ordinator, Gerard Griffin said that the team spirit displayed by students and their willingness to participate had ensured their win. He also thanked the coaches of the local Malanda Swimming Club, Anita Skews and Leonie Gageler for their support of the swimmers in their preparation and training.
Some of the highlights from the first District Interschool event for the Malanda High team included:  13 Years age girl champion, Konnah Tokorangi, 14 Years girl champion, Georgia King Runners-up for Age Champion included Quinn Stirling, Jardine Irwin, Alex Watson and Bradley Cortis
