Japanese Exchange visit

Malanda SHS families with their Japanese students
Sixteen students from Fukui Commercial High School in Japan return home this weekend after two weeks of homestay with Malanda High School families. The students participated in English lessons at school, as well as attending classes with their Malanda buddies, enjoying the opportunity to experience subjects and activities they may not have in Japan.
Eight of the students gave presentations at Parade on Wednesday, sharing information about Fukui, the Prefecture where they have come from in Japan, and also about Japanese subculture. Malanda students laughed in all the right places – much to the relief of the Japanese students, who had spent many weeks preparing their speeches.
Some of the highlights of their stay have included drama and music classes, horse riding, helping look after animals on homestay properties, their visit to Ozcare, meeting the animals at Malanda High, watching the District Sports Carnival, visiting Millaa Millaa Falls, shopping, the Lagoon in Cairns, and spotting tree kangaroos.
Thank you to all the incredibly generous families who hosted students during their stay. They have thoroughly enjoyed all the delicious meals and excursions, and most of all, the experience of being part of an Australian family. Your care and hospitality made their experience truly wonderful.
