Indigenous students at FOGS

On Wednesday March 19th, the Indigenous students from Malanda State High School, travelled to the Cairns Convention Centre to attend the annual 2014 Cairns FOGS Indigenous Employment and Careers Expo.
Upon arrival we were met at the entrance by Sam Backo who is a Former Origin Great player.  We were scheduled into an official welcome followed by a Movie Workshop facilitated by Wendell Sailor and Scott Prince.  The presentation was the sharing of stories by successful Indigenous Australians. The movie took us through their struggles and how they overcame them to get to where they are today.
Inside the Expo there were numerous exhibitors with information on the availability of jobs, apprenticeships, traineeships, tertiary education opportunities and support services to ensure that students transition from school into a successful pathway of personal choice.
Also there to support the students was Ben Barber and Justin Hodges.  The Brisbane Bronco players were signing posters and water bottles.  FOGS is an annual event that the students look forward to in Term One every year.  A great day was had by all.
