Activities Day for Year 8 and 9

Term 2 proved to be another exceptionally busy time for the Year 8 and 9 students at Malanda State High. Students were, on the last day of term, treated to a day of extra-curricular activities which don’t normally fit into the busy schedule of our school.

The Junior school kicked off the day eating popcorn watching the fractured fairy tale film, Maleficent, at the Malanda Majestic Theatre. All of the Year 8 and 9 students and supervising teachers then enjoyed a Pizza Picnic in the Park where we demolished 42 pizzas cooked by the Malanda Hotel.

The Year 8’s then went on to the Malanda Bowls Club to play barefoot bowls. For many, this was a first time experience and one that the students thoroughly enjoyed. We must thank the volunteers from the Bowls Committee who gave up their time to assist in this activity.

The Year 9’s returned to the High School to be involved in two activities, one lead by Blake Leary a player and Development Officer from The Northern Pride football club. Students played friendly games of Oz Tag, then practised their ball skills and also had a final ‘catch off’, with Blake kicking high balls for students to catch.

The other activity was led by our ever enthusiastic Mr Wrench who brought out the old style ball games for the students to have a go. This proved to be a great team building experience with a healthy dose of competition too.

All in all, this was another highly successful activities day which saw students and teachers experiencing new things, working together as a team and overall having fun.

Thanks again to the businesses and clubs involved in making this day possible and for their ongoing support of our school and students. A huge thank you to the staff involved also who arranged activities and supervised on the day.
