MALANDA STATE HIGH : A PLACE TO EXCEL

A message from the Principal

Malanda State High School is a small innovative secondary school which caters for students from Years 8 to 12. Repeatedly our school has shown that a quality education which caters for the needs of the individual results in high achievement in academic, sporting and cultural areas.

THE SCHOOL'S DIRECTION

The School's Statement of Purpose clearly defines our direction:

"
We are a school that focuses on high quality learning that makes a positive difference for all our community.

We equip young people for the future to enable them to contribute to a socially, economically, and culturally vibrant society."

The school is strongly focussed on ensuring that student outcomes are not only maximised, but that they surpass state averages. Our school is characterised by:

  • clear academic and social behaviour goals
  • order and discipline
  • high expectations
  • student support structures
  • community benefit linkages
  • high quality teaching
  • high quality and quantity learning time
  • a coherently organised curriculum
  • opportunities for student excellence
  • appropriate reward systems
  • clear communication between home and school
  • a wide variety of extra-curricular options

We believe our students should be:

  • Committed learners
  • Goal oriented
  • Self-disciplined
  • Responsible and personally accountable
  • Take pride in personal appearance
  • Caring and respectful of selves and others
  • Honest and reliable

The school’s students pride themselves on success and achievement. Not only is there emphasis on academic achievement but also on sporting achievement (where students have the opportunity of representing the school in swimming, athletics, cross-country and many other sports played at an inter-school level), on public speaking, and on involvement in music and the performing arts. As a school we have an ongoing strong relationship with our local RSL sub branch and to the ANZAC legend and spirit in general.

The school places an increasing emphasis on the use of Information Communication Technologies. The school is equipped with fibre optic cabling which links all buildings to a single information network and is also connected to a wide range of internet networks.

The school is widely regarded positively in North Queensland as a leading example of all that is good about state education.

Finally, it is our hope that students graduating from our school will be active contributors to our society by being:

  • Employable
  • Qualified for further education & training
  • Skilled in ICT ‘s
  • Socially responsible
  • Self motivated
  • Socially, culturally & globally aware
  • Environmentally active
  • Hard working and determined to improve themselves

Noel Rawlins

Principal
